In this lesson, students consolidate their equation solving skills. In the first activity, they use partially solved equations to identify solutions. In the second activity, students match equations to their solutions found algebraically. Students then study groups of solved equations and generalize about a solution method by noticing regularity through repeated reasoning (MP8).
In the last activity, students solve a variety of equations that look different but still share the same two basic structures:
None
Let's solve equations by doing the same to each side.
