These materials, when encountered before Algebra 1, Unit 1, Lesson 16, support success in that lesson.
The mathematical purpose of this lesson is for students to synthesize the skills gained throughout the unit. Students analyze data by interpreting data distribution shapes, measures of center, and measures of variability, and by comparing two or more data sets. In the associated Algebra 1 lesson, students will collect and analyze data using the skills from the unit. This lesson prepares students by strengthening their analysis skills. Students reason abstractly and quantitatively (MP2) when they solve problems by making sense of the data representations to understand how data sets relate to one another. In the Warm-up, students look for and make use of structure (MP7) as they find distances on a ruler.
