Topic 1: Establishing a Positive and Supportive Math Community
Students arrive at math class with experience and beliefs about what a math classroom looks and sounds like. The classroom community-building activities embedded in the IM materials invite students to collaboratively establish how their classroom will flourish. To support students in developing a productive disposition about mathematics and to help them engage in the mathematical practices, Unit 1 begins establishing norms and building a math community at the start of the school year.
