Collections of up to 20 small objects
There are various times when students will use collections of objects. Objects can include buttons, two-color counters, linking cubes, paper clips, pattern blocks, square tiles, or any other small items.

Each group of 2 students needs 30 connecting cubes and at least 2 collections of 2–9 objects.

Fewer, Same, More Stages 2 and 3 Cards
Students choose a card with an image and place it at the top of the mat. Taking turns, each partner picks a card, decides if the image shows fewer than, the same as, or more than the original amount, and places the card with the correct group on the mat. The images on the cards show amounts in different arrangements.

Students choose a card with an image and place it at the top of the mat. They complete the mat by drawing groups with fewer than, the same as, and more than the original amount in the image. Then students switch mats and check to make sure that their partner has drawn groups with fewer than, the same as, and more than the original amount.

Students choose a card that shows a number and an image and place it at the top of the mat. Taking turns, each partner picks a card, decides if it shows fewer than, the same as, or more than the original amount, and places the card with the correct group on the mat.
