Pre-Lesson: See Extra Support Materials for Algebra 1, Unit 7, Lesson 8.
In this lesson, students begin connecting different forms of quadratics by representing multiplication as an area. Students make use of this structure to write equivalent equations in expanded form (MP7), and then make the connection to the abstract distributive property to multiply factors (MP2).
The terms standard form and factored form are not yet used and will be introduced in an upcoming lesson after students have had some experience working with the expressions.
