These materials, when encountered before Algebra 1, Unit 4, Lesson 8, support success in that lesson.
The mathematical purpose of this lesson is to give students more opportunities to make sense of the kinds of situations that can be described with inequalities, and to recognize solutions to systems of inequalities.
This lesson builds on the work students did earlier with systems of equations and graphs of individual inequalities.
Students have an opportunity to look for and make use of structure as they make decisions about what inequality symbols shade different regions (MP7).
Technology isn't required for this lesson, but there are opportunities for students to choose to use appropriate technology to solve problems. It is recommended to make technology available.
