In this lesson, students are given graphs in a situation and asked to find interesting points on the graph and to describe their meaning. One activity guides students to examine the highest and lowest points, but a later activity gives students freedom to select any points and features that may be interesting to them. For this lesson, students should be given freedom to examine anything they find interesting. In the associated Algebra 1 lesson, students will be guided to look for specific features on a graph.

When students use the graph of a function to recognize interesting points, they are reasoning abstractly and quantitatively (MP2) in order to recognize the meaning of the point in a situation and describe the point.
