Lesson Narrative
The purpose of this lesson is to strengthen students’ numeracy needed to find a growth factor for an exponential relationship, as well as their ability to interpret the meaning of points on a graph that represents a context. When students explain how a graph or expression representing a model relates to the situation it represents, they are reasoning abstractly and quantitatively (MP2).
- Interpret multiplication as a scaling operation that can be used to relate the distance between two points on a coordinate graph.
- Use multiplication and division equations to calculate (orally and in writing) a scale factor.
