These materials, when encountered before Algebra 1, Unit 6, Lesson 13, support success in that lesson.
In order to prepare students to write an equation from two points on a graph, students are given the equation and then asked to determine growth factor and initial value from the table and graph. Students make connections between tables, graphs, and equations to strengthen the skills necessary to participate in the associated Algebra 1 lesson, in which less information is provided. To make these connections, students are noticing and making use of structure (MP7). In the practice activity, students trade roles explaining their thinking and listening, so they have opportunities to explain their reasoning and critique the reasoning of others (MP3).
