The purpose of this activity is for students to use multiplicative comparison and measurement conversion to create true statements and false statements about animals. A set of cards, with some facts about animals, is provided in the blackline master, but students also may research information about animals, using reliable internet resources or books. When students collect data and identify information they need to know to answer a question, they model with mathematics (MP4).
MLR2 Collect and Display. Activity: Circulate to listen for and collect the language students use as they compare facts about animals. Display comparative language such as: “longer,” “longest,” “heavier,” “faster,” “taller.” Invite students to borrow language from the display as needed, and update it throughout the lesson.
