The mathematical purpose of this lesson is for students to understand the connection between a graph and its equation. In the associated Algebra 1 lesson, students use a graph of a situation to match it with an equation written in the form . This lesson prepares students to be successful in the associated Algebra 1 lesson by allowing students to practice identifying corresponding parts of a linear equation with its graph. Students construct viable arguments (MP3) when they explain to a partner how they know a graph matches an equation.
