In previous units, students learned how to use the standard algorithm to multiply multi-digit whole numbers. In this lesson, they practice using the standard algorithm when one or more of the factors includes several zeros. The zeros are at the end of the number so students may identify each zero as representing a factor of 10 and work with smaller numbers to find the product. For example, they may interpret as . They may also use the standard algorithm for multiplication and pay close attention to the place value of each digit in the product.
If students need additional support with the concepts in this lesson, refer back to Unit 4, Section A in the curriculum materials.
