The purpose of this Warm-up is to elicit the idea that sometimes we need to add numbers to solve problems in our daily lives. Students are learning different methods for adding two-digit numbers. This Warm-up offers students a chance to see a real-world context where adding two-digit numbers may need to be done. While students may notice and wonder many things about the story, the idea that we can add numbers to solve real-world problems is the important discussion point.
