Lesson Narrative
In previous units, students counted quantities and read and wrote numbers up to 99. In previous lessons of this unit, students measured the length of objects.
In this lesson, students count a quantity between 100 and 110. In the first activity, students measure how tall they are using centimeter cubes and represent their work in a way that makes sense to them. In the second activity, students make sense of representations of larger numbers. In the Lesson Synthesis, students learn that 10 tens is 100.

Required Preparation
- Each group needs 120 centimeters cubes and a piece of string that is 100–110 centimeters long.
- Create a set of cards from the backline master for each group of 2.
