Previously, students solved “how many groups?” problems in a way that made sense to them. In this lesson, students extend problems involving sharing into equal groups to include “how many in each group?” problems. Students again have the flexibility to represent and solve problems using any strategy that makes sense to them in this lesson. If students use connecting cubes, encourage them to draw a picture to match their work. At the end of this lesson, division is defined as finding the number of groups or finding the size of each group when we share into groups of equal size.
