This lesson prepares students for a few things they will be asked to do in the associated Algebra 1 lesson: evaluating quadratic functions in vertex form for various inputs, extracting the coordinates of the vertex of a graph from vertex form of the associated quadratic function, and reasoning about whether the vertex corresponds to a maximum or a minimum value of the function. Students express regularity in repeated reasoning as they analyze multiple quadratic situations to determine key information (MP8).
