The purpose of this Warm-up is to elicit ideas about the features of a quilt, which will be useful when students create a border to go around their piece of a class quilt in a later activity. While students may notice and wonder many things about this image, the fact that the quilt is made up of many different pieces and that there is a border around each piece are the important discussion points.

// “Today we made decisions about the size of our quilt patches, measured to create the patches, measured to make a border for our patches, and used all of our patches to make a patchwork quilt. What was the hardest part of the quilt-making process? Why was it hard?” (The hardest part was putting all of the patches together since they were all different sizes. The hardest part was drawing the outline of my patch because I had to make sure it was the same length as 10 cubes.)
