In previous lessons, students learned that volume is a measurable attribute and a liter is a unit that is used to measure the volume of liquids and the volume of containers. Students now use this experience to match containers with their estimated volume. They compare the marks on a ruler to the marks on a container and learn to use a container with liter marks to measure volume.
