Addition and Subtraction Equations

Lesson Narrative
In previous lessons is for students to match addition and subtraction equations to Compare, Difference Unknown and Put Together/Take Apart Addend Unknown problems. This lesson builds on the previous work of this unit by asking students to find two equations that match a story problem and describe how each equation relates to the story problem. Students continue to deepen their understanding of the relationship between addition and subtraction and their understanding of subtraction as an unknown addend problem.

- Gather a set of cards for each group of 2 from the blackline masters. Story Cards E–I and Equation Cards O–V will be used in this lesson.
