Lesson Narrative
This lesson is optional because it does not address any new mathematical content standards. This lesson does provide students with an opportunity to apply precursor skills of mathematical modeling (MP4).
Students begin by wondering about different aspects of gardens. They then determine which of their questions can be answered using addition or subtraction. Students write story problems that will lead to answers to these questions. Finally, they solve each other’s story problems, answering the questions that were asked earlier.
