In this lesson, students begin to solve systems algebraically by using a simple form of substitution. Then, they match systems to their graphs to check that their algebraic solutions are reasonable.
Students revisit the conditions for which equations have 0, 1, or infinitely many solutions and adapt the conditions to apply to systems of equations. By examining the slope and y-intercept of the lines in the system, students can determine the number of solutions for the system based on the structure of the equations (MP7).
Let’s solve systems of equations.
