These materials, when encountered before Algebra 1, Unit 7, Lesson 11, support success in that lesson.
The purpose of this lesson is to strengthen connections between zeros of a function (the input or inputs when the output is 0), the output when the input is 0, and the coordinates of the intercept(s) of a graph of the function. Taken as a whole, this lesson can be considered a precursor for the Warm-up in the associated Algebra 1 lesson, when students will identify the coordinates of the intercepts of a graph of a given function. These activities provide a chance to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them (MP1). As students use the format of equations and graphs they are familiar with, they can look for and make use of structure to make connections (MP7).
