Lesson Narrative
In this lesson, students evaluate quadratic functions at their zeros and match other quadratic functions in standard form with equivalent functions in factored form. In the associated Algebra 1 lesson, students explore the zero product property. The work of this lesson familiarizes students with quadratic functions in factored form and begins the work to examine zeros. Students look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning (MP8) when they recognize zeros for a function in factored form.
Technology isn't required for this lesson, but there are opportunities for students to choose to use appropriate technology to solve problems. We recommend making technology available.
- Coordinate the factored and standard forms of quadratic expressions.
- Describe (orally and in writing) common features of functions that could indicate zeros of the function.
