This lesson is optional because it does not address any new mathematical content standards. This lesson does provide students with an opportunity to apply precursor skills of mathematical modeling (MP4). In previous lessons, students learned how to locate points on the coordinate grid and represent these points with ordered pairs. In this lesson, students begin by drawing a coordinate grid over a figure and determining the points that will be useful for drawing a copy of the figure. Then students use their plan to draw a copy of the figure. They describe the ways in which the original figure and the copy of the figure are the same and different.
