Find the value of each expression mentally.

Directions for Rectangle Rumble:

• Both partners choose a different color to write with.

• On your turn:

  • Spin the spinner and roll the number cube. The 2 numbers you spin will be your 2 factors.
  • Shade in a rectangular area to represent the product of your 2 factors.
  • If your product won't fit on the gameboard, spin again.
  • Take turns until the grid can’t fit any more rectangles.
• Find the total area you shaded. The partner with the greater total area wins.

Directions for How Close?:

• Remove the cards that show 10 and set them aside.

• On your turn:

  • Take 4 cards.
  • Choose 2 cards to multiply.
  • Write an equation to show the product of the numbers you chose.
  • Your score for each round is the difference between your product and 100.
• Take new cards so that you have 4 cards to start the next round.
• At the end of the game, add your scores from each round. The player with the lower score wins.

Choose a center to practice multiplying within 100.

• Compare—Multiply within 100: Decide which expression has the greater value.
• How Close?—Multiply to 100: Choose 2 or 3 numbers to multiply to get a product closer to 100.
• Rectangle Rumble—Factors 1–10: Multiply numbers to create rectangular areas to fill a grid with more squares.
