Students count the same group of objects in different arrangements several times throughout the lesson. It is important that students repeatedly experience counting the same group of objects in different arrangements to learn that the arrangement does not affect the quantity. This understanding develops over time and it is not necessary for all students to articulate at the end of this lesson. Students may continue to recount the same group of objects that have been rearranged until they are confident that the quantity remains the same. This concept will be revisited in future lessons and units.
